NIGHT GUARD

At Reliance Dental, our dentists recommend a night (occlusal) guard  for any of the following:

Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMD)

TMD are disorders of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), the joint that connects the lower jaw to the skull. An occlusal guard, in this situation, helps to alleviate pressure on the TMJ and reduce strain.

CLENCHING AND GRINDING (BRUXISM)

A mouth guard can help alleviate the symptoms of bruxism by offering a barrier between the upper and lower teeth, such that they slide against each other instead of applying pressure and grinding down.

SPORTS GUARD

A sports guard  is a protective device that covers the teeth and gums to prevent and/or reduce injury to the mouth. Dental professionals recommend mouth guards as a solution to many problems in addition to their preventive use for athletes.

AESTHETIC ENHANCEMENT & PROTECTION

A night guard may also be recommended to provide extra protection for certain delicate tooth restorations, such as temporary crowns, veneers, and more.

SNORE GUARD

A snore guard can help patients with snoring issues. Snoring occurs when a person’s airway becomes obstructed during a state of deep sleep. The mouth and throat tissue collapse inward and block the lung’s ability to take in oxygen. The soft palate and uvula vibrate as air passes back and forth in the throat’s constricted airway, causing the sound we call snoring. Snoring can be eliminated with lifestyle changes and a snore guard worn at night to keep the airways clear and open during sleep.
